Los Angeles Chargers Sign Birmingham Stallions OL Matt Kaskey

The Birmingham Stallions have set a USFL record for players signing with an NFL team in one season. Offensive lineman Matt Kaskey has signed with the Los Angeles Chargers, following a successful workout today.

Kaskey was an important piece to the Birmingham Stallions offensive line. He played in nine regular season games, starting in eight of those. His value to the team was quite high, showcasing his impressive skill sets through the 2023 season.

Ultimately, Matt won the USFL Championship with the team this year. Now, he’ll have an opportunity to pursue an NFL opportunity with the Los Angeles Chargers.

This isn’t the first time Kaskey has been in the NFL. He’s had stints with the Carolina Panthers and Los Angeles Rams – with an injury cutting his time short in Carolina.

With Matt back at full health, coming off a successful USFL season, there’s a good chance that this time around he’ll be able to stick in the big leagues.

Final Thoughts

Speaking of which, the Birmingham Stallions have sent 12 players to the NFL, including:

QB Alex McGough (Green Bay)
WR Austin Watkins (Cleveland)
WR Davion Davis (Arizona)
KR/WR Deon Cain (Philadelphia)
TE Jace Sternberger (Buffalo)
TE La’Michael Pettway (Indianapolis)
C Cole Schneider (Green Bay)
K Brandon Aubrey (Dallas)
P Colby Wadman (Washington)
DT Khalil Davis (Houston)
CB Lorenzo Burns (Cleveland)

Colby Wadman just signed with the Washington Commanders earlier today, as two Stallions athletes went to the NFL in less than 12 hours.

Had it not been for the platform – and the national exposure – that the USFL provided him with, who knows if this opportunity would have come along.
