Jeff Fisher Discusses New USFL Coaching Role on NFL Network

Yesterday the USFL finally revealed the last two head coaches in another spot on The Herd. This is coming hot off the heels of the leagues major media event on Tuesday where they officially revealed Birmingham, AL would serve as HQ in 2022.

Additionally, they revealed that the Birmingham Stallions would take on the New Jersey Generals in the debut matchup. It was also announced that the inaugural game would be simulcast on both NBC and FOX.

Needless to say, it was a big week for the USFL.

Closing out the second hour, Colin Cowherd named Larry Fedora as head coach of the New Orleans Breakers, and broke the news that Jeff Fisher would be taking the role for the Michigan Panthers.

After the news was official, Fisher and the USFL both started trending on Twitter; ultimately giving the league even more exposure. We’ve also seen the Michigan Panthers jump into first place as the most followed team account on social media.

Just one day in, Jeff Fisher is already making the rounds. He joined Taylor Bisciotti on NFL Network where he discusses his new coaching role in the USFL.

He started out by saying that everything really unfolded over the last couple weeks and spoke about his love of coaching. Ultimately, that’s what brought him to this role.

I don’t need to coach, I love to coach.

He went on to discuss his time helping with the AAF, and how over the last few years he’s been more in the college space mentally. At the end of the day, he loves what he does because he wants to help players. This is just another opportunity for him to do that.

All in all, it’s great to hear from the head coach himself after just being announced. He seems to be into the gig, so the Panthers fans should be excited about this hire.

With all of the coaches now revealed, the focus shifts to the players selection meeting set for February 22nd and 23rd. This is when each franchise will build out their 38-man active rosters and 7-man practice squad.

We’re not even through the first month and the USFL has dropped a lot of information already, with less than three months to go we expect even more big USFL news to come down the pipeline.
