Houston Texans Signing Birmingham Stallions DT Khalil Davis

The USFL to NFL pipeline runs through Birmingham. Stallions DT Khalil Davis is signing with the Houston Texans, becoming the 19th player to officially make his way from the USFL to NFL this offseason.

Khalil Davis joined the Birmingham Stallions ahead of the 2023 season, and quickly became an integral piece to their defensive line. He helped the team win a USFL Championship, serving as one of the top DT’s in the league, with a PFF grade of 77.5.

Davis finished the year with 29 total tackles, and one sack.

It has been a long journey for Davis throughout his career so far. He played for five years at Nebraska, and was outstanding in his senior season, with 45 tackles and eight sacks.

He then spent time with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Indianapolis Colts, and Pittsburgh Steelers – but couldn’t find much stability with either organization.

Now, Khalil Davis will have a chance to further pursue his NFL dreams with the Houston Texans. So far, he is the tenth Birmingham Stallion to sign to the NFL:

QB Alex McGough (Green Bay)
WR Austin Watkins (Cleveland)
WR Davion Davis (Arizona)
KR/WR Deon Cain (Philadelphia)
TE Jace Sternberger (Buffalo)
C Cole Schneider (Green Bay)
K Brandon Aubrey (Dallas)
CB Lorenzo Burns (Cleveland)

Most recently, the Indianapolis Colts signed TE La’Michael Pettway. Had it not been for the platform – and the national exposure – that the USFL provided him with, who knows if this opportunity would have come along.
