Houston Roughnecks Sign Safety Rashad Torrence II

Houston Roughnecks Sign Safety Rashad Torrence II

The Houston Roughnecks have made another free agent addition to their secondary. Safety Rashad Torrence II has signed a contract, just days after the Roughnecks lost their first game to the Memphis Showboats.

While Houston’s secondary played impressively well – especially in the second half – more help is always appreciated.

For Head Coach Curtis Johnson, he’s noted on multiple occasions that he hasn’t been perfectly satisfied with his defensive backs. This has led to quite a bit of movement throughout Training Camp.

Now, he’s added another piece. Rashad Torrence joins the Roughnecks with a bit of NFL experience, as he most recently spent time with the Los Angeles Rams. Torrence played in all three preseason games, totaling six tackles.

Rashad spent his college days at Florida, and saw quite a bit of success. He racked up 196 tackles and three interceptions. In his senior season in 2022, Torrence led the team with 84 total tackles.

He’s clearly a prospect with plenty of potential, and now looks to the UFL to kickstart his professional career.

Final Thoughts

It is interesting to see the Houston Roughnecks sign another DB. Their secondary wasn’t terrible by any means on Sunday. The position groups that need some work are on the offense. The offensive line play was abysmal in week one.

Additionally, their special teams unit was problematic. Blocked punts, muffed punts, etc. haunted Houston throughout the day.

That said, Rashad Torrence II is a great signing, and should fit right into Chris Wilson’s defense once he is activated. It seems that Torrence was picked up to replace Jamari Brown, who was placed on IR for surgery late last week.

Houston continues their UFL season this Sunday, at 4pm ET as they hit the road to take on the DC Defenders.
