Houston Roughnecks Re-Sign RB Ezra Gray

Houston Roughnecks Re-Sign RB Ezra Gray

With the release of Tiyon Evans, the Houston Roughnecks have brought back running back Ezra Gray. Gray was originally with the team in Training Camp, and now returns for the final couple of games.

Ezra Gray was selected by the team in the first round of the UFL Super Draft. It was a unique pickup, given his limited minutes during the 2023 USFL season with Memphis.

During his time in the USFL, Ezra was with the New Orleans Breakers and Memphis Showboats. He ended up having one big run on the year, in week ten against the Birmingham Stallions. Gray posted 37 rushing yards in 2023.

The running back room in Houston has been rather interesting this season. They were without Mark Thompson for the first few weeks, and had Kirk Merritt go down with injury early. T.J. Pledger took the brunt of the carries, with Tiyon Evans not given much of a shot. Evans had just five rushing yards in 2024.

Now, Ezra Gray will look to prove to the team why they had picked him up in the Super Draft in the first place. Ezra had been released during the first set of Training Camp cut downs on March 10th.
