San Antonio Brahmas Sign LB Rashod Berry

Houston Roughnecks Claim Rashod Berry, Cut Cam Sutton

The Houston Roughnecks made a couple of moves early this week. They claimed EDGE rusher Rashod Berry, and cut TE Cam Sutton who was a depth piece for the organization through three weeks.

EDGE Rashod Berry

Rashod Berry is an intriguing pickup. He was cut this week by the San Antonio Brahmas – who signed him in the offseason. Rashod was a rotational piece for the Brahams through the last two games, seeing the field on 48 snaps. Across that span, he posted one tackle, and one QB hit. His PFF grade was 43.2 – not necessarily making much of a difference up front for the Brahmas.

Berry has had an interesting story so far as a football player. He was primarily a tight end in college, playing at Ohio State. However, when he made his way to the NFL, he switched to DE – and has seen quite a bit of time at OLB for various teams.

He was suspended by the NFL for violating their gambling policies, which put a damper on his career. Since then, he’s struggled to find his footing at the professional level.

Now, Berry gets another opportunity with the Houston Roughnecks. Houston’s defensive line has shown some improvements over the last two weeks – especially with the addition of Tashawn Bower at EDGE. Look for Berry to be a depth piece, probably behind Jamir Jones and T.J. Franklin.

TE Cam Sutton

Cam Sutton has been released – and this story feels a bit controversial. During the broadcast on Saturday, in Houston’s win, head coach C.J. Johnson was visibly frustrated with a strange sequence where a player was on the field, when he wasn’t supposed to be.

That player turned out to be Cam Sutton, who got caught up in a personnel mixup. Now, after playing just eight offensive snaps through three games, Sutton has been released.

Cam is a spring veteran – spending time with the Vegas Vipers in 2023. He also was with the Memphis Showboats in camp last UFL season. With Sutton let go, Houston only has two tight ends rostered at the moment. Keep an eye for Malcolm Epps to potentially return, who was a camp cut.
