Houston Gamblers Tap Chris Wilson for Vacant Defensive Coordinator Role

Houston Gamblers Tap Chris Wilson for Vacant DC Role

2022 was not kind to the Houston Gamblers. They always seemed to come just shy of the winning the game. One of the shining lights for Houston in 2022 was their defense, but the off-season has seen many of their coaches exit the organization.

It’s been teased that we’d be learning Coach Sumlin’s new coaching staff near the new year, and it looks like that is coming to fruition.

Pocket Aces of the USFL Network reports that Chris Wilson will be joining the team as Defensive Coordinator.

Beyond taking the DC role, Wilson will also be handling linebacker duties for the Gamblers.

He most recently served as DC for Colorado, but comes to the USFL with a long history of experience.

Wilson received a Super Bowl ring when he served as a defensive line coach for the Philadelphia Eagles, who defeated the New England Patriots in Super Bowl LII. Prior to that, he spent two years with the University of Southern California as the defensive line coach.

He has also held collegiate coaching positions with the University of Oklahoma, Indiana State, NE Oklahoma A&M, Illinois State, the University of Colorado, Mississippi State, the University of Georgia, and USC.

This is a big step forward for the Gamblers who still have some peices to get back in order before we head into 2023.
