Houston Gamblers Sign Free Agent DL Jake Hlava For 2024

It’s been a busy week for the Houston Gamblers. Amidst a few signings, the team has brought in DL Jake Hlava for the 2024 season.

Jake played his college football at Grand Valley State, seeing action from 2017-2019. Across that span, Hlava posted 91 tackles and nine sacks, making an impact on the interior.

In 2019 he led all defensive linemen with 32 tackles, including 11 TFL. Jake also earned Academic All-GLIAC honors that season.

Since then, Hlava has been looking to latch onto a professional roster. He has spent time in the CFL with the Toronto Argonauts and Ottawa Redblacks, but hasn’t played any snaps yet in a regular season game.

Now, Jake Hlava signs with the Houston Gamblers, in an effort to kickstart his professional playing career. At 26 years old, Jake has plenty left in the tank and now looks to prove himself in Houston.

Final Thoughts

GM Lionel Vital has been quite aggressive in signing players over the past week. The team was silent for over two months, but have recently signed a few athletes including:

WR Isaiah Zuber
OL Justin Redd
S Tyler Coyle

As the USFL-XFL merger nears its completion, it’ll be interesting to see what ultimately happens in Houston. The city can only have one team between the Roughnecks and the Gamblers. Regardless, the Gamblers have been picking up the pace with signings as of late, which could be a sign of things to come in the new league.
