Former TSL Alphas QB J.T. Barrett to Attend Dallas Cowboys Mini-Camp

Former Buckeyes and TSL Alphas quarterback J.T. Barrett is getting another shot opportunity to shine in the NFL. The Dallas Cowboys have invited Barrett to attend their upcoming mini-camp. This is exactly what The Spring League was created to do, give players a chance to showcase their skills to professional recruiters.

Just last week, former Dallas Renegades backup Eric Dungey was invited to a Bengals mini-camp prior to his Blues debut. If you ask us, The Spring League’s plan is working.

Barrett went undrafted in 2018 but was signed by the New Orleans Saints. He did not appear in a regular season game and spent the season on and off the team’s practice squad.  He was let go by the Saints in August 2019 and signed ten days later by the Seattle Seahawks. The Seahawks put him on waivers shortly after.

After an injury to Drew Brees, Barrett was once again signed by the Saints and assigned to their practice squad. Nearly a month later he was released again. Pittsburgh signed him to their practice squad on Christmas Eve that year but released him during the 2020 preseason. Barrett played a few games with The Alphas of The Spring League last fall.

Barrett was a four-year starter for the Buckeyes and the program’s only three-time captain. He is the only quarterback for either Ohio State or Michigan to go 4-0 as a starter in the series. Barrett is the Big Ten’s all-time leader in touchdowns and was named as the first-team quarterback on the conference’s All-Decade Team.

If Barrett makes it through the weekend tryout, he’ll most likely battle Ben DiNucci and Garrett Gilbert for the Cowboys’ number three spot. DiNucci and Gilbert were both with the team last year and each started one game. Former Illinois State quarterback Brady Davis will also be at the tryout this weekend.

As we mentioned above, this proves that The Spring League is a working product. The league is built around giving players opportunities to take the next step in their career.
