Just a couple of days after a UFL Championship, two Louisville Kings are headed to the Detroit Lions. Wideouts Lucky Jackson and Tarik Black are both signing with the Lions, sources confirm to Pro Football Newsroom.
It’s an amazing story, and one that makes the UFL so special. Both Black and Jackson are veteran receivers, who needed an opportunity to showcase that they can still perform at an elite level. The two were a phenomenal duo in Louisville, alongside Isaiah Winstead – creating a triple-threat at wide receiver that terrorized defenses all year long.
Lucky Jackson will find himself back in the NFC North. After a strong year with the XFL’s DC Defenders in 2023, he spent three years with the Minnesota Vikings. Lucky Jackson had 392 receiving yards and two touchdowns with the Kings this year, alongside nine punt returns for 106 yards.
This was Tarik Black’s first season in spring football. He dominated, with 387 receiving yards and three scores, showing up in countless clutch scenarios for the Kings throughout the year. Black has outstanding hands, with the ability to come down with contested catches in traffic and tight windows.
Chris Redman had high praise for both Black and Jackson throughout the year. Both are getting up there in age (28, 29) – and this may be their last chance at legitimately sticking in the NFL. The two were sensational when their names were called upon, and now get the unique opportunity to play for the same team in the NFL, after sharing a locker room in the UFL.
The Detroit Lions love spring football. Ever since they discovered Jake Bates a couple of years ago, the Lions have continually looked to the UFL, signing over 15 players last year from the spring fold. Battlehawks RB Jacob Saylors ended up making that roster in 2025. Black and Jackson certainly won’t be the last UFL athletes to make their way to Detroit this year.
These signings are just another testament to what the UFL platform stands for: giving athletes another chance to chase their dreams. You can stay up to date with all UFL to NFL movement with our official tracker.
