With so much movement in UFL camp so far, every day has brought something new in the world of transactions. Sources tell Pro Football Newsroom that DE Christian McCarroll is signing with the DC Defenders, while DB Clarence Lewis is making his way back to the Houston Gamblers.
DE Christian McCarroll | DC Defenders
With the sudden retirement of Gabe Murphy, the DC Defenders needed some depth at edge. They’ve gained exactly that with Christian McCarroll, a D2 star who now looks to find his footing as a pro in the UFL.
McCarroll played all of his college ball at Grand Valley State University. He racked up 151 tackles, 31.5 tackles for loss, and 15 sacks in 47 games played. Eight of those sacks came during his senior campaign in 2023.
This led to a couple of professional opportunities. First up, Christian spent the 2024 NFL preseason with the Patriots, recording one tackle. Last year, he also spent some time with the CFL’s Tiger-Cats. While McCarroll doesn’t have the massive size of other edge rushers in this league, he’s very technically sound – and has speed, which is something DC Blake Williams has emphasized early in camp.
DB Clarence Lewis | Houston Gamblers

After originally not reporting to training camp, Clarence Lewis is signing with the Houston Gamblers. Lewis was one of the team’s draft picks back in January, and now will be officially joining the squad.
Lewis is an exciting prospect who played his college football at Notre Dame and Syracuse. He spent most of his career with the Fighting Irish, starting in 23 games – totaling 124 tackles, 18 PBU’s, and three interceptions (including a pick six).
Clarence wrapped up his collegiate career at Syracuse, earning Third-team All-ACC after leading the team with 12 pass breakups. Lewis has a bit of NFL experience with the Titans and Dolphins, but now turns to the UFL to get his professional career off the ground.
