DC Defenders Sign TE Kaden Smith In UFL Free Agency

The DC Defenders continue to add experienced targets around QB Jordan Ta’amu, this time signing TE Kaden Smith to the active roster.

At 6 ‘5, 250 lbs., Smith was selected by the San Francisco 49ers in the sixth round of the 2019 NFL Draft. He was waived by San Francisco and ended up playing three seasons with the New York Giants from 2019-2022, finishing with 52 receptions for 413 yards, and three touchdowns.

Smith bounced around a couple different NFL camp rosters (Colts and Commanders) following his tenure with NYG, but was unable to stick anywhere.

Kaden Smith, now 26, joins a DC Defenders tight end room that includes Briley Moore, Alex Ellis, Shaun Beyer, and Ben Bresnahan. Moore and Ellis return from last season, but the tight end position in DC appears to be wide open this year.

Final Thoughts

The signing of Kaden Smith is a clear signal that DC is not satisfied with their current tight end depth. Look for Smith to be in the mix to make this UFL roster, and possibly even be a week one starter for DC.

Smith’s signing brings the Defenders back to 75 players on the roster. Reminder, DC must cut down to 57 players by March 10th.
