DC Defenders Sign QB Mike DiLiello & WR Monroe Young

With the injuries to the DC Defenders offense, the team has brought in some new faces. QB Mike DiLiello and WR Monroe Young have signed with DC, sources tell Pro Football Newsroom.

QB Mike DiLiello

Deondre Francois has been placed on IR after suffering an injury during their loss against Michigan. This has led to the DC Defenders signing Mike DiLiello, who is fresh out of college.

DiLiello was eligible for the NFL Draft this past April, and ended up receiving an invite to the Tennessee Titans rookie mini-camp in early May.

Mike had a lengthy college career, making a few different stops. He began his journey at Florida Tech, seeing some quality minutes during the 2019 season. DiLiello then transferred to Middle Tennessee State for the next two years, but did not see the field often. He was primarily a backup at MTS.

In 2022, Mike DiLiello moved to Austin Peay. This proved to be a great decision, as he started at the school during his final two seasons of action. Mike threw for 5,611 yards and 49 touchdowns, with 21 interceptions. He also showed off his mobility, totaling over 600 rushing yards during that span.

DiLiello earned 2023 First Team All-UAC honors during his senior season at Austin Peay, leading one of the most potent offenses in the FCS that year.

Now, DiLiello will look to kickstart his professional career in the UFL, with the DC Defenders. While it’s unlikely he’ll get on the field this year, with Jordan Ta’amu dealing with a concussion, anything is possible.

WR Monroe Young

Since Kelvin Harmon announced that an injury has ended his season, DC needed to make a move. They have brought in WR Monroe Young – who is also a rookie, and was eligible for the NFL Draft just as Mike was.

Not only was Young eligible for the draft, but he also recently had a rookie mini camp opportunity – with the 49ers.

Monroe played the entirety of his collegiate football at California. He totaled 511 receiving yards and four touchdowns during his time there. His senior season was productive, as Young started in six of 13 games played.

Final Thoughts

The DC Defenders have made a plethora of transactions as of late. They had to move on from a couple of players due to injury, and made a waiver claim as well.

General Manager Von Hutchins appears to be making some moves that could impact the 2025 season more than this current one. DC is 3-4, and are on the verge of playoff elimination. To keep their hopes alive, they have to beat the St. Louis Battlehawks this weekend, and will hope that the Brahmas stumble against the Renegades.

With playoff chances getting slimmer by the week, signing these rookies seems to be decisions that are aimed at developing talent for next year.
