DC Defenders Sign David Satkowski & William Barnes

DC Defenders Sign David Satkowski & William Barnes

The DC Defenders have added to their offensive line once again. David Satkowski and William Barnes signed contracts with the team, following more injuries and movement this past weekend.

OL David Satkowski

The DC Defenders signed David Satkowski to the roster, as another NFL Draft eligible player. Just a couple of weeks ago, the Defenders acquired QB Mike DiLiello and WR Monroe Young – both of which were eligible for the NFL Draft, and attended Rookie Mini-Camps.

Satkowski is no different. He had a mini-camp opportunity with the Chicago Bears, and also had prospect workouts with the New England Patriots and New York Jets.

David Satkowski played his college football at Stonehill. He earned All-NEC First Team honors during the 2022 and 2023 seasons, starting in 29 consecutive games down the stretch of his career.

Satkowski brings legitimate talent to this offensive line – one that needs it desperately.

OT William Barnes

William Barnes also joins the team as someone who was eligible for the 2024 NFL Draft as well. Barnes played his college football at North Carolina, starting in 21 of 59 games played there. 20 of his 21 starts came during his final two seasons.

He was invited to the New York Giants Mini-Camp, showcasing his potential in the professional scene. Now, Barnes will look to get some snaps in the UFL before the season comes to a close.

Francis Bernard & D’Marcus Hayes Out

Yesterday, linebacker Francis Bernard was placed on the suspended list. It is unknown as to the reason for why this happened, but it appears he won’t be back this season. Francis posted 16 tackles and a sack in 2024, starting in five games this year.

According to PFF, Bernard struggled. He finished with a 38.0 Defensive Grade. He had a tough time in coverage, allowing 14 of 16 pass attempts his way to be completed, for 186 yards.

OG D’Marcus Hayes was also released today, likely to make room for Barnes and Satkowski. Hayes started in six of eight games played in 2024, with a poor 37.8 Offensive Grade on 342 snaps via PFF.

Final Thoughts

With a 3-5 record and playoffs no longer in sight for the DC Defenders, General Manager Von Hutchins is already looking to next season. This is a smart move. The team has now signed four players who were draft eligible, with more likely on the way. DC needs a rebuild, and they’re getting a head start on exactly that.

DC will face off against the 1-7 Memphis Showboats this weekend, looking to get back in the win column prior to the season’s end.
