As the DC Defenders enter United Bowl weekend, they’ve made a change. The team has released WR Javon Antonio, and re-signed DB Isaiah Johnson to provide some depth in their secondary heading into the big game.
Isaiah Johnson is no stranger to the DC Defenders. Johnson was with DC for three seasons, winning a Championship with them a year ago. Isaiah moved to safety for DC in 2025, making five starts at the position down the stretch of the season. He had 28 tackles in 2025.
With some of the struggles that DC has had lately in their secondary, specifically their safety room (i.e. Kai Gray), it’s not a surprise to see a familiar face brought back to bolster that room. Isaiah has experience playing corner and safety in DC.
In a corresponding move, WR Javon Antonio was released. The Defenders have a ton of depth at wideout, although it is too bad that Javon had to be let go just a few days before the United Bowl. Javon had three receptions this year – two of which went for touchdowns.

Additionally, the Houston Gamblers have claimed DE Durrell Johnson off of waivers. Johnson was released by DC earlier this week, having been on IR for several weeks. Durrell put up decent numbers in just a few games with the team, totaling 11 QB pressures and a sack, alongside 10 tackles.
Houston loves their defensive ends, having picked up a few along the way throughout training camp and the regular season. It appears that Kevin Sumlin and this group are already making moves to strengthen their corps heading towards the 2027 campaign.
