Monday’s slate of transactions in the UFL brought some intriguing moves from DC. The DC Defenders signed WR Seth Williams, while also bringing back S Montae Nicholson off of IR.
WR Seth Williams
The Defenders have brought in Seth Williams, who’s got plenty of potential and is an exciting pickup for this group offensively. With the release of Joshua Matthews, it cleared space for Seth to make his way to DC.
GM Von Hutchins continues to target prospects like Williams – guys who have some NFL experience, but didn’t get the opportunity they needed to succeed as a pro.
Seth Williams played his college ball at Auburn, where he had a tremendous career. He became the team’s number one receiver as a sophomore, with 59 receptions for 830 yards and eight touchdowns that season. The next year, Williams recorded 47 receptions for 760 yards and four scores – once again showcasing his NFL potential.
After declaring for the 2021 NFL draft as a junior, Williams was selected in the sixth round by the Denver Broncos. He had one catch for 34 yards in a loss to the Chargers that year, but was waived by the team in 2022. Seth Williams has been on various practice squads the last few seasons – and was most recently waived by the Dallas Cowboys last week. Now, he’ll join a loaded DC wide receiver core that just got even better with the addition of Williams.
S Montae Nicholson
Montae Nicholson is finally back, having been activated off of IR for DC. With Josh Proctor released, it makes sense to see Nicholson return. Montae was placed on IR in week one, which led to Josh coming back to the defense.
Nicholson emerged as a standout for the Defenders a year ago, with two interceptions across the final four games. He’s a piece that has been greatly missed by this DC team – but should come in and be an impact player for Blake Williams on defense.
