Dallas Cowboys Signing Michigan Panthers DB Josh Butler

Dallas Cowboys Signing Michigan Panthers DB Josh Butler

It’s been a whirlwind of a day for the Michigan Panthers. DB Josh Butler has officially signed with the Dallas Cowboys, after a successful workout with the team earlier today.

Josh Butler is the tenth USFL player to sign with an NFL team. In addition, he’s the third Panther to do so today. Both WR Kaden Davis (Arizona Cardinals) and DE Levi Bell (Seattle Seahawks) were signed just hours ago.

During the 2023 USFL season, Josh Butler was an excellent cornerback for the Michigan Panthers. Between Butler, LeVonta Taylor, Sean Mahone, etc. – the Panthers’ secondary was quite solid.

Butler finished the year with 29 tackles, and several passes defensed. He was consistently one of Michigan’s top players, earning a 73.9 PFF grade through the first six weeks of action. He started all eleven games for the Michigan Panthers this season.

For Josh Butler, coming to the USFL was a homecoming. He was a star at MSU, and quickly felt at home with the Panthers.

On a side-note, he also played in The Spring League, having been a part of the Conquerors franchise during the 2021 season.

Now, Josh Butler will have an opportunity to pursue his NFL dreams with the Dallas Cowboys. The Cowboys have signed two USFL players this offseason, with K Brandon Aubrey signing a couple of weeks ago.

Had it not been for the platform – and the national exposure – that the USFL provided him with, who knows if this opportunity would have come along.
