The crazy world of spring football is the gift that just keeps on giving. In the latest bit of hard-to-believe news: Columbus Aviators Head Coach Ted Ginn Jr. was arrested in Texas over the weekend, due to a DUI.
Very few details are known about the situation, other than his initial arrest. Ted Ginn Jr. was driving drunk in the Texas area, near the UFL hub in Arlington, leading to his arrest.
It’s a bizarre storyline for the league to try and tackle. Ginn was hired this offseason to coach the Columbus Aviators, a new franchise as part of Mike Repole’s renewed vision for the league.
To start the year, Columbus has lost their first two games. Ginn was slated to coach the team tomorrow, taking on the 2-0 Dallas Renegades on the road. However, due to this development, he will not be on the sidelines.
The UFL released a statement from CEO and President Russ Brandon:
“We are aware of an incident involving Head Coach Ted Ginn Jr. over the weekend and are in the process of gathering more information. Offensive Coordinator Todd Haley will handle the head coaching duties for the Aviators game on Sunday.”
Todd Haley will take over as interim Head Coach for the time being. It remains unclear if the league will be moving on from Ginn or not. Stay tuned for more on the way soon.
