Another day, another signing for the Carolina Panthers from the UFL. Houston Gamblers DT Kyon Barrs has signed a contract with the Panthers, sources confirm to Pro Football Newsroom.
For those who watched Kyon Barrs closely this year, his signing to Carolina is no surprise. He was one of the top interior defenders in the UFL, for a second straight season.
Barrs joined the Houston Gamblers during the re-draft of the league. He teamed up with Kevin Sumlin and former Renegades DC Marvin Sanders in Houston, anchoring a Gamblers defense that saw legitimate improvements throughout the year. Kyon racked up three sacks, 14 defensive stops, and 30 tackles. He boasted a strong 78.3 Defensive Grade, via PFF.
Last year, Barrs spent the full UFL season with the Arlington Renegades. He had a strong campaign, which led to an NFL opportunity with the Arizona Cardinals. Kyon was very impressive during the preseason, and surprisingly did not make the practice squad – despite multiple projections placing him there.
Kyon, the former USC product, is still young with plenty to give at the professional level. The UFL has been a perfect developmental platform for Barrs, who has shown his ability to play – and thrive – professionally.

The Carolina Panthers have been hunting UFL talent as of late. Earlier this week, they also signed Louisville Kings EDGE Cam Gill, who earned UFL Defensive Player of the Year honors. Interestingly enough, Barrs had a workout with Carolina last offseason, prior to signing with Arizona.
