Brandon Aubrey Breaks NFL Record With 19th Straight Field Goal

The legend of Brandon Aubrey continues to grow week in and week out. The former USFL Champion with the Birmingham Stallions has officially set an NFL record. Aubrey has successfully made his first 19 field goal attempts in the NFL, which is the most by any new kicker in the league.

As we wrote about last week, Brandon Aubrey’s journey to this point has been absolutely remarkable. He began his professional career as a soccer player, in the MLS. He then abruptly changed paths, realizing that he wanted to play football in the NFL.

This led Brandon Aubrey to landing in the USFL, with the Stallions. Legendary NFL kicker John Carney recommended Aubrey to head coach Skip Holtz, who decided to take a gamble on a player who had never set foot on a football field, ever.

Aubrey proved his worth to Birmingham immediately. He was an All-USFL kicker in 2022, and continued his dominance in 2023 as he displayed his excellent kicking abilities, going 14-15 on field goal attempts.

Dallas Cowboys special teams coordinator, John Fassel, took notice. He took an under the radar trip to Birmingham to watch Brandon kick this year, and was impressed.

Fast forward to the NFL preseason, and Brandon was battling it out with Tristan Vizcaino, ultimately winning the job. After missing on his first XP attempt of the year, Aubrey has been perfect. This Sunday, against Philadelphia, he knocked through a 51 yard field goal attempt – officially setting the NFL record.

Aubrey has been kicking at a high level all year long for the Dallas Cowboys. As QB Dak Prescott calls him β€œbutter”, Brandon has gotten better with each and every week.

Final Thoughts

The USFL continues to prove why their model and system is vital to the game of professional football. Over the past two seasons, over 100 players have signed NFL contracts. Aubrey has made the most of his opportunity, alongside many others – including former USFL MVP KaVontae Turpin, who scored a touchdown for Dallas on Sunday as well.
