Brahmas Sign QB Jayden De Laura Amongst Roster Moves

It’s been a busy week for the San Antonio Brahmas. The team has signed QB Jayden De Laura, in what is a blockbuster move for the 4-1 organization. Alongside that signing, they have also seen some roster updates throughout the week.

Jayden De Laura

Jayden De Laura signing with the San Antonio Brahmas probably wasn’t on a spring football fan’s bingo card for this week. De Laura was pitching himself to colleges not too long ago, and was also eligible for the 2024 NFL Draft.

De Laura began his college career at Washington State. He played there for two years, starting both. In his sophomore season, Jayden racked up 2,796 passing yards alongside 23 touchdowns.

In 2022 he decided to transfer to Arizona, and once again earned a starting role. He threw for 3,685 yards and 25 touchdowns, to 13 interceptions. Jayden played in just six games in 2023, totaling 1,120 yards and 10 scores. He’s a mobile quarterback, who can use his legs to extend plays.

It’s been a rather interesting journey for Jayden since then. He originally was committed to Texas State, but some off-the-field drama led to him moving away from that opportunity, and declaring for the NFL draft.

Now, De Laura will look to kickstart his professional career in the UFL, with the San Antonio Brahmas.

Tom Flacco Released

Tom Flacco was permanently QB3 for the Brahmas, and never got a chance to showcase his skill sets. He was an offseason addition for San Antonio, but was never really considered for the starting gig. Flacco is a mobile quarterback who impressed during his college days at Towson.

Other Cuts & Movement

RB Brycen Alleyne: The Brahmas have released Brycen Alleyne, which is a shame. He was explosive with the Roughnecks last year, but never got much of a chance to prove himself in San Antonio. After a breakout game from Morgan Ellison this past week, Brycen finds himself on the outside looking in.

OL Alex Pihlstrom: Alex Pihlstrom was let go, after not playing a snap with San Antonio this season. With the injuries on the offensive line, it is a bit strange that Alex never saw the field.

LB Jamir Jones: Jamir Jones is another release that’s mildly surprising. Jones stepped up defensively when they were dealing with injuries. He finishes his UFL season (for now) with two tackles.

C John Yarbrough: Yarbrough is back, which is excellent news. He was solid with the Houston Roughnecks last year, but hadn’t played yet due to injury. Now that he’s close to being reactivated, the Brahmas will get some much needed help on the offensive line.

DB Gavin Heslop: Gavin Heslop has been moved to the inactive roster, off of the injured reserve list. Heslop was one of the highly touted corners coming into the season for San Antonio, so it’s great to see him potentially returning soon.

Final Thoughts

It has been a flurry of action for San Antonio this week, which makes sense given the injuries and changes they’ve seen throughout this short season. General Manager Marc Lillibridge continues to roll with the punches. This organization is 4-1, and is positioned to make a deep playoff run if they keep building upon each win.

San Antonio faces off against the DC Defenders on the road this weekend, in what is a crucial divisional matchup.
