Free agency in the UFL is officially underway. Teams have until mid-February to finish filling out their rosters as they seek to expand to 75 players before camp. The Birmingham Stallions have made their first free agency signing, and it is a splash that will make a lot of Stallions fans happy: WR Slade Bolden.
As I previously reported per @TheBamaStandard, Slade Bolden is signing w/ the @USFLStallions. Bolden won the CFB Playoff w/ Bama in ‘20. His final season he had 42 recs for 408 yards & 3 TDs. He has also spent time w/ the Ravens & Falcons.
Slade Bolden was a member of the Alabama Crimson Tide from 2019-2021. He won a championship with the Tide in 2020. 2021 was his best year statistically as he finished the season with 42 catches for 408 yards and three touchdowns.
Bolden declared for the draft after his junior season. He was not drafted, but he did sign as an undrafted free agent with the Ravens. He ended up getting injured during camp and was released from the team in October.
After the 2022 season, Bolden signed with the Falcons. He spent the past training camp with them, but he did not end up making the team or practice squad.
Now, he gets a chance to come home to Alabama and play in front of some of his biggest fans again. He joins an already stacked Birmingham wide receiver room that includes the 2022 and 2023 USFL Championship MVPs (Victor Bolden and Deon Cain) plus Marlon Williams, Amari Rodgers, Binjimen Victor, and Gary Jennings.
Add running backs C. J. Marable, Ricky Person, Jr., Bo Scarbrough, and ZaQuandre White; plus tight ends Jace Sternberger and Marcus Baugh to the equation, and you have one scary offense. J’Mar Smith is going to have more weapons to throw to this spring than he might know what to do with. It should be fun to watch Skip Holtz use all these players and see how he tries to maximize their potential on the way to a possible three-peat.
