Birmingham Stallions Sign WR Gary Jennings & CB Mark Milton

Birmingham Stallions Sign WR Gary Jennings & CB Mark Milton

The Birmingham Stallions continue to load up on free agents ahead of the 2024 season. WR Gary Jennings and CB Mark Milton have signed to the team, adding depth and talent on both sides of the football.

WR Gary Jennings | St. Louis Battlehawks

While the USFL-XFL merger is moving forward, teams have not become official quite yet. This means that free agents, such as Gary Jennings, are available to sign with any USFL team. If he returned to the XFL, his rights would be retained by the St. Louis Battlehawks. The Stallions got ahead of that process, signing Gary for 2024.

Jennings is obviously no stranger to spring football. He played for the Battlehawks in 2023, making an impact in multiple areas, including special teams. One of his major highlights came in week eight against Vegas, where he took a fake punt to the end zone.

Gary Jennings finished the XFL season with 149 receiving yards and three touchdowns. He was a red zone threat, using his speed to get behind defenders often.

Following his stint in St. Louis, Jennings spent time with the Carolina Panthers in the preseason. He performed well, even scoring a touchdown against the New York Giants.

After being released by Carolina, Gary now returns to spring football – this time with the reigning USFL champs. Considering Davion Davis just signed to the Houston Texans practice squad, Jennings could be the depth the Stallions are looking for at the wide receiver position.

CB Mark Milton | Baylor

Mark Milton is an excellent addition to Birmingham’s secondary. John Chavis boasted one of the top USFL defenses in 2023, and it now just got even better with the signing of Milton.

Mark spent his collegiate days at Baylor, where he continued to improve with each and every year. In his senior season, he started in 11 of 12 games played, posting 46 tackles and an interception.

Interestingly enough, Milton was also with the Panthers during the NFL’s 2023 preseason. He landed on the practice squad, but was released on November 10th. Since then, he had a workout with the Arizona Cardinals. Now, he’s set to play for Birmingham in 2024.

Final Thoughts

General Manager Zach Potter continues to make all sorts of moves, amidst the impending USFL-XFL merger. Just last week, they signed three major free agents (WR Deon Cain, LB Travin Howard, S Kenny Robinson).

While the merger looms heavy, the Stallions are a team that are basically guaranteed to be a part of the new league. Whether or not it features an 8 or 10 team format, Birmingham will be in a position to run it back once again.

Obviously, things aren’t perfectly clear when it comes to these inter-league signings right now. Battlehawks’ HC Anthony Becht voiced his frustration with Jennings heading to a team that very well may be a rival in 2024:
