Sampson became a starter halfway through his first season with the Jayhawks. He went on to start three more seasons on the defensive line. He finished his career at Kansas with 77 tackles, 11.5 tackles for loss, 5.5 sacks, and six pass deflections.
Stallions add DL Caleb Sampson (6’3, 305) out of Kansas. Had 77 tckls, 11.5 TFL, 5.5 sacks, & 6 PD in college. Signed w/ the Colts as an UDFA but was released at the end of preseason. Now gets a shot in the #UFL
Sampson was eligible for the 2023 NFL Draft, but he was not drafted. He signed with the Colts afterward, though, as an undrafted free agent. He spent training camp and preseason with the Colts, getting 49 preseason snaps. However, he was let go at the end of camp. He was brought back to be on the practice squad but was released again a day later.
Sampson did not get picked up by any other team during the 2023 NFL season. Now, he joins the Birmingham Stallions in the UFL where he will look to make a name for himself.
It looked liked the Stallions were done adding players when they brought in Chris Lacy, but a spot opened up when they released Tre’Vour Wallace-Simms. The offensive lineman took a coaching position with the University of New Mexico, so understandably his football career looks to be over as he transitions into coaching full-time.
As expected, @TheKidThatDid77 is stepping away from playing football to continue coaching it at the University of New Mexico 🐺 He goes out a champion 🏆
Sampson is a nice add for the Stallions. The defensive lineman has size (6’3, 305) and athleticism. He played every position on the defensive line at one point or another for the Jayhawks, so his versatility is a big plus. He projects to play on the defensive interior, but it is nice to know the Stallions can line him up off the edge if necessary.
It will be interesting to see if the Stallions add any more players this week. They would have to release someone to make that happen, but it is a possibility. On a Birmingham radio show this week, head coach Skip Holtz hinted that the Stallions are not done yet with this roster—and even alluded to possibly bringing in another quarterback.
"Not really done with this roster…We're still working through some free agency things. And there may be somebody else that has the opportunity to show up in [the QB room]."@CoachSHoltz this morning on @3ManFront & @WJOX945 👀#UFL x #GiddyUp🐎
