Birmingham Stallions Sign DE Taco Charlton, Yarbary To IR

Another day, another big splash for the Birmingham Stallions. This time the team has added DE Taco Charlton to the roster, who is a name that many will recognize given his past success in the NFL.

Taco has had a pretty lengthy career so far. Beginning in college at Michigan, Charlton proved himself year after year, allowing himself to see a larger role with the team after every season.

As a junior, he started in three of 13 games played, totaling 30 tackles and 5.5 sacks. This led to a tremendous senior campaign with 40 tackles and 10 sacks, starting in all 11 games.

Taco Charlton was highly sought after by NFL teams coming out of college. He was selected in the first round of the 2017 NFL draft by the Dallas Cowboys, and played with the team for three years. Across that span, he racked up 46 tackles and four sacks in 27 active games.

In 2019, the Miami Dolphins picked Charlton up midway through the season. In ten games that year, Taco posted 21 tackles and five sacks, making five starts.

Since then, though, Taco has struggled to make a major impact on a 53 man roster. His latest true success came in Pittsburgh during the 2021 season, where he finished with 18 tackles in 11 games played.

Charlton’s NFL career has taken him to quite a few different stops, including: Kansas City, New Orleans, Chicago, and most recently, San Francisco. Throughout that span he’s totaled 95 tackles and 11.5 sacks in the NFL.

Now, he will look to continue his professional career in the UFL, with the Birmingham Stallions.

Willie Yarbary To IR

In the midst of the good news, is a dose of some bad. Willie Yarbary, who’s been one of the top defensive tackles in the USFL through two seasons, has been moved to the injured reserve list.

Yarbary started in all ten games for Birmingham last year, compiling 35 tackles and 3.5 sacks. Interestingly enough, he had identical stats in 2022 as well. Willie is an extremely underrated DT, one who’s been a key piece to back-to-back Championship runs for the Stallions.

However, General Manager Zach Potter continues to make moves, and with this latest addition of Charlton, the Stallions are still in excellent shape heading towards their season opener against Arlington.
