As the Birmingham Stallions attempt to turn around what has been an abysmal season so far, the roster has seen plenty of changes. The latest transactions for the Stallions included two signings: DE Randy Charlton and DB Clarence Lewis.
After being cut in camp by the Houston Gamblers, Clarence Lewis is back in the UFL. Lewis was one of the Gamblers’ draft picks back in January, but arrived to Training Camp late, and now finds a new home in Birmingham.
Lewis is an exciting prospect who played his college football at Notre Dame and Syracuse. He spent most of his career with the Fighting Irish, starting in 23 games – totaling 124 tackles, 18 PBU’s, and three interceptions (including a pick six).
Clarence wrapped up his collegiate career at Syracuse, earning Third-team All-ACC after leading the team with 12 pass breakups. Lewis has a bit of NFL experience with the Titans and Dolphins, but now turns to the UFL to get his professional career off the ground.
It’s always great to see a player make the jump from the Indoor Football League to the UFL. That’s exactly what DE Randy Charlton is doing, having been a part of the Orlando Pirates this season. Randy appeared in a couple of games before signing to Birmingham.
Charlton spent his college days at UCF and Mississippi State. At Mississippi State, Randy totaled 71 tackles, 12 TFL’s, and eight sacks across just two seasons. This earned him an UDFA opportunity with the Miami Dolphins, before a trip up north to the CFL with the Edmonton Elks.
Birmingham needs depth on their defensive line, especially with the recent losses of Perrion Winfrey and Amani Bledsoe. Randy probably won’t be a day-one starter, but he’s got potential to be a strong piece, especially in the run game.
