The Birmingham Stallions continue making moves in the free agency period, but rather than picking up USFL free agents, they continue to focus on NFL talent. The team announced the signings of DT Carlos Davis and DE Curtis Weaver yesterday.
Carlos Davis
Carlos was a seventh round pick by the Pittsburgh Steelers in the 2020 NFL draft, He played in seven games during his rookie season, racking up 6 tackles. In August of 2022 Carlos was released by the Steelers and signed to the practice squad the next day. When his practice squad contract expired, he found a new home with the Atlanta Falcons, and was ultimately waived a few months later.
Carlos Davis could be a familiar name to some, considering he has a twin brother, Khalil Davis, Who currently plays for the Houston Texans, and who also played for the Birmingham Stallions during the 2023 season.
Carlos is twin brother of Stallions legend @khalildaish94. Played at NEB together, where Carlos was All-B10 Honorable-Mention. He finished w/ 125 tckls, 16 TFL, 9.5 sacks, 1 FF, 2 FR & 8 PBUs. Spent 3 seasons w/ PIT in the #NFL & most recently was w/ ATL. pic.twitter.com/80Ztz10S4f https://t.co/8xIoJ76J0f

Curtis Weaver
Curtis was a fifth round draft pick by the Miami Dolphins in the 2020 draft, after having quite the collegiate career at Boise St. Unfortunately, Curtis was waived with an injury designation on August 24th of 2020, and the Cleveland Browns were awarded Curtis off the wire.
Weaver was a MONSTER at BSU. 1st Team All-American, Bednarik Semifinalist, & MW DPOY in '19 when he had 52 tckls, 18.5 TFL, 13.5 sacks, 1 FF, 1 INT & 4 PBU. Set MW career sack record in just 3 szns w/ 34. 5th round pick by MIA, spent last 4 szns in #NFL. pic.twitter.com/pZBr2pGWed https://t.co/8xIoJ76J0f

Curtis never saw much playing time for the Browns during his time there, but he did go through a slew of transactions, with the Browns waiving him on August 31st of 2021, where they signed him to the practice squad the next day. On Christmas eve, Curtis was promoted to the active roster as a COVID replacement, His first game action came against the Cincinnati Bengals, where he got his first and only career tackle.
After bouncing around off waivers and the practice squad, Curtis was ultimately released on October 4th of 2022. Curtis had one last NFL stint when he signed a futures deal with the Minnesota Vikings, but was released by the team in august of 2023, and went unclaimed.
