The Birmingham Stallions have inked another key re-signing ahead of the 2024 USFL season. Defensive Back JoJo Tillery is returning to the team after winning two championships with the Stallions in his first two years in the league.
Tillery was a key piece of the Stallions 2022 championship run. He finished the regular season as the team’s second-leading tackler behind DeMarquis Gates. Including the playoffs, he had 61 tackles along with a tackle for loss, a sack, a forced fumble, and four pass deflections in 2022.
Unfortunately, Tillery missed the entire first half of the 2023 season due to ankle injuries. The defense was not the same without him. When he returned in week six, he jump-started a unit that had been struggling to find its identity early on. Upon returning, JoJo Tillery was complimented by Coach Holtz for being a defensive leader who made everyone else around him better.
He finished the year with 31 tackles, 1.5 sacks, a forced fumble, an interception, and a pass deflection in seven games. He especially shined on the biggest stage, having his best performance in the USFL Championship. In that game, he had 10 tackles and a strip sack late in the game that sealed the Stallions’ victory.
Stallions have re-signed DB @TheeJoJoTillery. Tillery missed multiple games to start the ‘23 season but jump-started the defense upon returning.
That culminated in an elite championship game performance where he had 10 tackles, a sack, & a forced fumble.
Having Tillery back in 2024 will go a long way toward the Stallions’ continued success. He is an excellent football player who has helped to establish and maintain a winning culture in Birmingham. His energy and vocal leadership should continue to pay off dividends for the Stallions.
Tillery joins six other Stallions who have been re-signed by the team so far. Those players include:
RB C. J. Marable LS Ryan Langan WR Marlon Williams FB Bobby Holly P Colby Wadman OL O’Shea Dugas
The Stallions have lost the most players to the NFL thus far, so every re-signing is critical in their quest to three-peat. Expect General Manager Zach Potter to continue to try to lock in more of his players in the coming weeks.
