Birmingham Stallions Re-Sign S Christian McFarland For 2024

Birmingham Stallions Re-Sign S Christian McFarland For 2024

Birmingham Stallions safety Christian McFarland has re-signed with the team after his second USFL championship-winning season.

McFarland has been a tackling machine for the Birmingham Stallions over the past two seasons. He led the team in tackles in 2023 with 64 after being tied for the second-most tackles in 2022 with 63. His 127 tackles over the past two seasons are the most for a Stallion in modern USFL history.

Christian McFarland is a hard-hitting safety who plays downhill and is not afraid to come up and deliver a devastating blow to stop the run.

McFarland has also contributed nine pass deflections, one interception, and one tackle for loss over the past two years. His sole interception was a huge one: it sealed the 2022 USFL Championship game in favor of the Stallions.

However, the numbers alone fail to capture what McFarland means to the team. Christian McFarland is a leader and defensive captain for the Stallions, offering a commanding presence in the Stallions back end. For a team that has lost 15 players to the NFL so far—including three defensive backs—bringing a player like McFarland back is invaluable.

Having McFarland back for another year will help to stabilize the Stallions defense and allow them to hit the ground running in 2024. Look for the Stallions to try to also re-sign their other starting safety, Tyree Robinson, in the coming weeks before he becomes a free agent. If they can bring back Robinson along with McFarland and defensive back JoJo Tillery, who has already re-signed, that will go a long way toward their continued success in 2024.
