As the Birmingham Stallions attempt to work through injuries that have hampered them all season long, they’ve made quite a few moves ahead of week nine.
The Stallions have signed:
DE Steve Linton
DB Nevelle Clarke
DB Tommi Hill
LS Gage King
They’ve also released CB’s Rachad Wildgoose and Faion Hicks.
DE Steve Linton
With the injury to Bradlee Anae this week, the Stallions have brought in some reinforcements. DE Steve Linton has signed to the team, as a 2025 NFL Draft eligible player who is fresh off an NFL rookie mini-camp opportunity with the Seahawks.
Steve began his college career at Syracuse, with 45 tackles and five sacks to his name across four seasons of action. Linton was primarily a rotational piece at Syracuse, making just two starts. He transferred to Texas Tech in 2023, totaling 22 tackles and three sacks that season.
As a senior, Steve made the move to Baylor. He started in five of nine games played, with 26 tackles, seven TFL’s, and three sacks. After going undrafted, Steve was with the Seahawks in their rookie mini-camp, and now lands in Birmingham with the Stallions.
DB Nevelle Clarke
Nevelle Clarke is back, as one of the surprise cuts by the Stallions during Training Camp this year. Clarke has quietly been one of the top defenders in the spring football scene the last couple of years. He spent the first two USFL seasons in New Orleans, registering 49 tackles, three tackles for loss, three interceptions, 16 passes deflected, one forced fumble, and one fumble recovery across that span.
This earned Clarke an NFL stint with the Pittsburgh Steelers. After his release, he ended up joining the Birmingham Stallions, shaking things up in free agency.
With the Stallions, Clarke worked his way into a starting role defensively. He posted 24 tackles, an interception, and five PBU’s with Birmingham in 2024. Additionally, his aggressive play in the UFL Championship game was key in gaining momentum early. Corey Chamblin will no doubt be pleased to have him back with the Stallions.
DB Tommi Hill
Another undrafted player from this past draft class joins Birmingham, in CB Tommi Hill. Hill played the majority of his college football at Nebraska, and also spent a year at Arkansas State to begin his career.
Hill was a starter for most of his time as a Cornhusker, and went viral for a pick six he had in a game this past college season against Shadeur Sanders, Colorado’s star quarterback.
Across his career, Hill totaled 73 tackles, five interceptions, and a touchdown. He’s slightly undersized for a corner, but makes up for it with impressive quick-twitch traits. Hill was surprisingly not picked up by an NFL team, but did have a rookie mini-camp invite with the Minnesota Vikings.
LS Gage King
The Stallions have had a bunch of turnover at the long snapper position, and see Gage King added to the roster this week. King was a part of the 2025 NFL draft class, as a standout long snapper at UCF. He was recently with the Packers during their rookie mini-camp.
It’s unclear at the moment as to why this move was made. William Mote has not been released, nor has he been placed on IR. Ryan Langan is still on IR, so he isn’t eligible to return quite yet.
Defensive Cuts
CB Rachad Wildgoose: Wildgoose joined Birmingham as one of the more promising additions of the offseason. He didn’t exactly live up to expectations, though, with 13 tackles and a PBU across six games played. With the return of Clarke, there isn’t room for Wildgoose.
CB Faion Hicks: Hicks is another DB that was underwhelming this season from a performance standpoint. In three games he had three tackles, committing a couple of rough penalties and allowing some big completions as well. Faion never settled into his role, and now finds himself without a home heading into week nine.
GM Paul Roell has had his work cut out for him this season. It’s been a brutal year for Birmingham across the board with injuries and players not staying available, but hopefully the brunt of the storm is behind them heading into the postseason.
