As the Birmingham Stallions look to make a playoff push, winning three straight, they are making more changes. The offensive line unit has seen significant movement, with the releases of center Andrew Raym and guard Tyrese Robinson.
In their place is Andrew Carter, a former Indoor Football League player who makes his way up the ranks to the UFL. Andrew played most of his college ball at the NAIA level, with Carroll College. He earned back-to-back First-Team All-Frontier Conference honors.
As a senior, Andrew transferred to Weber State. There, he exceeded expectations at the D1 level, earning Big Sky Academic All-Conference honors as he started in all 11 games at center. Since then, Carter has made a living in the IFL, with the Tucson Sugar Skulls and Green Bay Blizzard. He’s an under-the-radar pickup for Birmingham at the position.
Andrew Raym may have been a bit banged up this past weekend, causing his release. Raym has started in almost every game at center for the Stallions, not allowing a sack all year. He’s struggled a bit in run blocking reps, though, with a 47.5 Grade via PFF. The Stallions just re-signed Preston Wilson this week who can play center, so he will be the backup to Noah Johnson moving forward.
Tyrese Robinson worked his way into a starting role at guard in week four, and hasn’t looked back since. Unfortunately, he went limping to the sidelines against Columbus, which likely led to this move by Birmingham. With limited IR spots, and general moves on the season, A.J. McCarron was probably left with no choice. Robinson has had his ups and downs this year, but didn’t allow a sack on 181 pass blocking reps.
The Birmingham Stallions will face off against the Aviators again this Saturday, this time in Columbus.
