It’s that time of the year for the Birmingham Stallions to cut down their roster, in preparation for the 2025 UFL season. It was no easy task, but the Stallions have officially cleaned house, releasing 14 players as they now sit at 50.
The @USFLStallions have cut the following #UFL players:
WR Joseph Ngata
WR Tyron Johnson
TE Marcus Baugh
OT Alex Akingbulu
OG Matt Farniok
OG Grant Miller
DT Demetrius Taylor
DE Kyle Phillips
DE Joshua Pryor
LB JoJo Domann
LB Elijah Sullivan
DB Nevelle Clarke

Offense
WR Joseph Ngata
WR Tyron Johnson
TE Marcus Baugh
OT Alex Akingbulu
OG Matt Farniok
OG Grant Miller
The Stallions released two wideouts, with Joseph Ngata and Tyron Johnson not making the roster. Ngata immediately jumps off the sheet as one of the surprises, given his background in the NFL. He was someone many expected to make a difference in Birmingham offensively.

Also, TE Marcus Baugh has been let go. Baugh found himself in a crowded tight end room, and now is on the outside looking in after being cut in camp. Marcus has plenty of spring ball success under his belt, so he’s someone that could certainly be picked up by another team.
The Stallions also brought in quite a few offensive linemen in the offseason – and there simply isn’t room for everyone. Akingbulu, the former Philadelphia Star, was someone projected to make the roster, but now makes his way to Arlington. The same goes for Matt Farniok, another offseason addition. Grant Miller wasn’t claimed off of waivers, and currently remains as a free agent.
Defense
DT Demetrius Taylor
DE Kyle Phillips
DE Joshua Pryor
LB JoJo Domann
LB Elijah Sullivan
DB Nevelle Clarke
S JuJu Hughes
S Qwuantrezz Knight
Defensively, the Stallions had some seriously difficult decisions to make. At D-Line, Demetrius Taylor, Kyle Phillips, and Joshua Pryor have all been released. We knew that Birmingham would have to cut some starting caliber players, due to the incredible amount of talent they brought in during the offseason. Phillips and Pryor are both prospects who could start on other UFL rosters right now.
At linebacker, JoJo Domann who was just signed a couple of days ago, has been cut. He didn’t have much time to prove himself, and now will look for a new home. Elijah Sullivan, who’s won two Championships with Birmingham, has also been cut. With all of the new signings at LB, Elijah became a bit estranged compared to the rest.
One of the unsung heroes from the @USFLStallions Championship Run: DB Nevelle Clarke.

In the secondary, Nevelle Clarke is a surprising release. He made a name for himself in Birmingham’s secondary down the stretch of the season, and put on a show in the UFL Championship game last year. Clarke was formerly a standout with the USFL’s New Orleans Breakers, as well.
JuJu Hughes was mainly a rotational/depth piece a season ago, so his release isn’t the biggest surprise. Qwuantrezz Knight is another offseason pickup, who, had he been on the team a season ago, probably would’ve made the roster. With how loaded it got in Birmingham, though, there was only room for so many.
Final Thoughts
For Birmingham’s coaching staff, it wasn’t easy to make these decisions. Head Coach Skip Holtz spoke about how tough it was – and how they ultimately decided to keep some of their veterans, because they’ve “won with them before”.
“It has been a great camp, and we had some really difficult decisions to make to get us here. Unfortunately, we can’t keep them all. We had to make some hard decisions, but we like our football team and excited to get to work for the first game against D.C.” – HC Skip Holtz
Now, the Birmingham Stallions are officially set to roll into the 2025 UFL season, with another Championship caliber roster. As of right now, the Stallions remain the favorites to win it all in the betting odds.
