Birmingham Stallions Bring Back Standout DT Khalil Davis

In what is a full circle moment for DT Khalil Davis, the Birmingham Stallions have officially re-signed him for the 2026 season, sources confirm to Pro Football Newsroom.

Khalil has had quite the journey in pro football – one that was greatly assisted by his time in Birmingham. In fact, without his stint in the USFL in 2023 with the Stallions, his career may have been over that year.

Davis played his college football at Nebraska. He had multiple D1 offers, and chose the Cornhuskers – playing in 47 career games there. He earned Defensive Lineman of the Year honors in 2019, when he led the team with eight sacks, alongside 45 tackles as a senior.

This led to Davis being selected by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the sixth round of the 2020 NFL Draft. He hardly saw playing time, though, and then bounced around between a few NFL teams – including the Colts, Rams, and Steelers.

In March of 2023, Khalil decided to bet on himself and signed with the USFL’s Birmingham Stallions. He had a stellar year that season, with 29 tackles and a sack to his name. He boasted an outstanding 81.0 Defensive Grade, via PFF.

From there, Davis made his way back to the NFL, landing with the Houston Texans. In 2023, Davis played in 15 games, totaling 32 tackles and two sacks as he got his career back on track. During the 2024 season, Khalil totaled nine tackles and a sack – but was then traded to the 49ers midway through the year.

Davis posted three tackles with San Francisco to close out the 2024 season. After originally being slated to return to the 49ers in 2025, he opted to retire from football, according to multiple reports over the summer.

Now, that’s all changed. Khalil Davis is officially returning to football – this time in the UFL, back in Birmingham. He joins his twin brother Carlos, who also attended Nebraska with him. Khalil and Carlos will now play side by side in Birmingham, after failing to overlap during the 2023-2025 seasons. It’s one of the most intriguing stories in all of pro football.

Khalil is an absolute stud on the interior. He’s a tremendous pickup by GM Paul Roell. With All-UFL DT Perrion Winfrey locked into the Dallas Cowboys 53 man roster, they needed some help at DT – and now get it with a familiar face in Khalil Davis.
