Birmingham Stallions Add Lester Erb To Coaching Staff

With the news of Philip Montgomery departing Birmingham to take a position at Virginia Tech, the Birmingham Stallions have brought in a new face to replace him. According to HC Skip Holtz at Media Day this week, Lester Erb will join the organization to help facilitate the roles that Philip operated.

Lester Erb has a rich history in the football scene, at the professional and collegiate levels. He spent a couple of years in the NFL with the Baltimore Ravens, as an offensive quality control coach from 1997-1998.

Since then, he’s primarily been in college football. He’s had stints with the following colleges, as a RB/WR’s coach:

– Iowa (2000-2012)
– Nevada (2013-2016)
– Rutgers (2017-2019)

Most recently, Erb has been serving at LSU as a senior special teams analyst for the Tigers. He’s got a plethora of experience coaching in college style offenses, which means he should fit right into Skip Holtz’ schemes.

Erb will serve as an offensive assistant on Holtz’ staff. As for Montgomery’s departure, Holtz was very adamant in his support for Philip’s decision. He told Montgomery that he needed to take the opportunity with the Hokies, as the purpose of the UFL is to be a platform to launch, or revive, coaching and playing careers.
