Birmingham, Houston, Louisville Makes Moves In Week Six

We are officially at the halfway point of the UFL’s regular season. On Monday, the Birmingham Stallions, Houston Gamblers, and Louisville Kings made some moves to shore up specific position groups as we head towards the second half of the season.

Birmingham Stallions

The Stallions have brought in Jayden Peevy, a defensive tackle who was with the Orlando Storm in training camp. Jayden had a solid camp, but with the amount of talent and depth Orlando had in their D-Line room, it was a tough rotation to crack.

Jayden Peevy is a veteran defensive tackle who will immediately make an impact. He totaled 140 tackles, 19 TFL’s, and seven sacks at Texas A&M, notably blocking a couple of field goals as well.

He began his NFL career with the Titans, spending a couple of years there. Following his release in 2023, Jayden bounced around between a few NFL teams, before landing in the UFL this spring. With the release of Perrion Winfrey, and Amani Bledsoe being traded to Orlando, picking up Peevy is crucial. The team had to play Nate Becker 32 snaps this past week – he accounted for zero tackles.

Birmingham placed LB DaRon Gilbert on injured reserve. They’re stacked at linebacker, so it won’t impact this defense too much, but Gilbert was a strong rotational piece. He played 92 snaps this year, making six tackles and four defensive stops.

Houston Gamblers

Kaden Davis arriving in Houston is pretty big news. They’ve already got a talented wide receiver core, and now add to that with the pickup of Davis. Kaden is a veteran wideout who can help out in a myriad of ways, both offensively and on special teams.

Davis is no stranger to spring football. He played with the USFL’s Michigan Panthers in 2023, joining early in the year and contributing as a punt/kick returner. Davis then went on to play in the NFL for the last couple of years, making a few game day appearances with the Cleveland Browns.

Kaden notably was a fan favorite in Cleveland, catching a couple of touchdown passes from Shedeur Sanders this past preseason. Davis, once he gets settled into the offense, will be another weapon in the slot for Nolan Henderson.

Louisville Kings

The Kings have opted to bring back TE Chris Pierce Jr., who was with the Kings in camp. Chris, the former Vanderbilt product, spent the prior UFL season with the Memphis Showboats. He was protected by Chris Redman and this staff, but was surprisingly let go during cut downs. With an injury to Tre’ McKitty which has knocked him out for a few weeks, Pierce was brought back.

Chris didn’t put up tremendous numbers last year, but that’s mainly because he wasn’t given a true opportunity to catch the ball. Pierce is an excellent route runner for a tight end, something that this offense can utilize.

Additionally, they’ve brought in John Campbell Jr. – who was just cut by Houston. John was injured a couple of weeks ago, which led to Houston releasing him. Campbell was active in two games, allowing two pressures on 51 snaps.

With all of the changes that Louisville is making to their offensive line, it’s not surprising to see them pick up another depth/rotational piece.

Final Thoughts

Finally, the Orlando Storm placed TE Konner Fox on injured reserve. Fox had one reception for four yards, with four targets on the year. He was primarily used as a blocking tight end, but his grades are not up to par with what Steven Stilianos and Shawn Bowman were producing so far.
