Battlehawks WR Jahcour Pearson Activated, Ben DeLuca To IR

The St. Louis Battlehawks have gotten a mix of good and bad news this week. First and foremost, Star WR Jahcour Pearson has been activated, and is slated to make his UFL debut against Memphis.

This Battlehawks offense has already been humming, posting a season high 31 points against San Antonio this past Sunday. Hakeem Butler, Marcell Ateman, Darrius Shepherd, and plenty of others have been performing at a high level in the WR room.

Now, the XFL’s leading receiver from 2023 is back in action. According to the depth chart, he will be starting this season out as a backup, which makes sense as they begin to ramp him up for gamedays.

Pearson needs no introduction when it comes to his talent, and what he brings to the table for St. Louis. The Battlehawks selected him with their first pick in the XFL Dispersal Draft, which speaks volumes to what GM Dave Boller and HC Anthony Becht see in him.

In the XFL last year, Jahcour led the league with 670 receiving yards. He also added four touchdowns to his tally. His outstanding campaign resulted in some NFL interest following the season.

With Pearson back on the roster, St. Louis had to make a corresponding move. WR Jeff Thomas, who has not seen the field yet this season, was released. Thomas is a St. Louis native, and has previous spring football experience with the USFL’s Pittsburgh Maulers and Birmingham Stallions.

Ben DeLuca To IR

Unfortunately, the Battlehawks have lost Ben DeLuca to the injured reserve, which likely knocks him out for the rest of the season. Ben has been a starting safety for St. Louis this year, but went down with an injury during their matchup against the Brahmas.

The injury bug had gotten to Ben last year as well. He started in five games for the Battlehawks in 2023, totaling 25 tackles, before going on the IR list.

Hopefully, he heals up sooner than later, but St. Louis will have to prepare to miss him in the secondary for the remainder of this UFL season.

Final Thoughts

It’s a big week for the St. Louis Battlehawks. They’re back at home, prepared to see their home crowd that eclipsed 40,000 in the stands back in week two.

With a two-win streak under their belts, the Battlehawks are feeling good heading into this week four matchup against the Memphis Showboats.
