Cincinnati Bengals Signing XFL Arlington Renegades QB Drew Plitt To PS | St. Louis Battlehawks

Battlehawks Sign QB Drew Plitt, Brandon Sebastian To IR

Major news for St. Louis Battlehawks fans: the team has signed former Ball State quarterback Drew Plitt. Fans of spring football will remember Plitt as the Renegades’ Week 1 starter last season.

The major takeaway from this signing, however, is not the signing itself, but rather the implication that A.J. McCarron won’t be available in Week 8.

McCarron is facing an injury to his ankle after a low tackle by Carlos Davis in Week 7.

Despite expressing concern that he’d broken his ankle on the sideline, it didn’t stop him from coming out and finishing the game. McCarron’s performance suffered, however, from strained footwork to limping off the field. Now it seems he’ll be sidelined for at least a week.

Drew Plitt

Plitt will take on the important role of bringing depth to the Battlehawks QB room, now presumably led by the former Green Bay Packer, Manny Wilkins. Having started three XFL games last year, alongside his preseason experience with the Bengals, Plitt is an especially qualified candidate for the position and will be a valuable asset for the team.

Over his five games with the Renegades, Plitt threw for three touchdowns and five interceptions with a 63% completion percentage.

St. Louis faces a critical matchup in Week 8 against their detested rival, the DC Defenders. Like Week 9 last year, the Battlehawks are in a “win and in” scenario. There’s a lot more to play for than just a playoff spot, however. Sharing a 5-2 record with San Antonio, the Battlehawks hold the tiebreaker with their win against the Brahmas in Week 3. Given that San Antonio is more than likely going to beat the 1-6 Arlington Renegades, winning this game is not only critical to keep the Defenders out of the playoff race, but also to maintain home field advantage in the postseason.

Brandon Sebastian To IR

The Battlehawks will have to face this challenge without key players. Alongside McCarron, it was also announced that cornerback Brandon Sebastian is out for the season with an injury to his hand.

Sebastian was a top contributor for the Battlehawks’ defense last season, and certainly made an impact this year. His loss will definitely be felt come Sunday. Sebastian posted 14 tackles and an interception this year, with an outstanding 6 PBU’s. He allowed just 44% completion percentage when the ball was thrown his way (12/27).
