Orlando Guardians Defensive Linemen Caeveon Patton has signed a deal with the Atlanta Falcons, he announced on his instagram Thursday. Despite Orlando not having the best season, Patton was still able to make the All-XFL Defensive team, rightfully so. He played all 10 games for the Guardians last season – recording 40 total tackles, 12 solo tackles, and 5 tackles for loss. Patton’s best game of the season came in a 35-32 loss over the Vegas Vipers. Patton would record an incredible 11 total tackles in this game.

Prior to the XFL, Patton played football for Texas State, where he would primarily line up at Defensive Tackle. In 2019 for the Bobcats, Patton was named to the Honorable Mention All-Sun Belt Conference. His best season with the team arguably came as a senior in 2021, where he would record 51 total tackles in 11 games. He would also add 4 tackles for a loss and 1.5 sacks.
Primarily lining up at Defensive End for the Guardians, Patton should have a good chance of earning some playing time based on the lackluster DE depth chart that Atlanta has. There isn’t much depth in the position, even after bringing in veteran Calais Campbell. I believe Caeveon has a good chance of earning some playing time during the preseason, and perhaps even during the regular season if all goes well.
As the 39th player to sign with a NFL team from the XFL, Patton is more proof that the XFL is truly the league of opportunities.
