Sy Barnett is an intriguing signing, for more reasons than one. He’s an athlete who has played at multiple positions throughout his college career. During his final season at Ferris State, he recorded 12 receptions for 166 yards and a touchdown.
Interestingly enough, he also handled kicking duties that year, hitting 7-10 field goal attempts, and 51 of 57 extra points.
He played at Davenport for his final year of eligibility, and served as the teams punter, with 19 punts for a total of 798 yards in 2022. In addition, he registered 53 receptions for 694 yards and four touchdowns as a wide receiver.

Sy Barnett was drafted by the Arlington Renegades during the XFL Rookie Draft back in June. He also had a short stint in the NFL with the New Orleans Saints.
Now, Barnett will look to kickstart his professional career in the UFL, signing as a wide receiver with the Arlington Renegades.
While his special teams prowess could be put to good use, with Taylor Russolino and Marquette King already rostered, one would expect Barnett to only be used in emergency situations on special teams.
GM Rick Mueller has some more work to do to finalize the Renegades roster for 2024. With February 14th approaching quickly, the team still has seven openings ahead of training camp.
With eleven wide receivers rostered, it’s likely that the final roster spots go to other positions. But, the more competition the better, so it’ll be interesting if the Renegades bring in some others, as there are many free agents deserving of opportunities.
