Arlington Renegades Release Kicker Taylor Russolino

Arlington Renegades Release Kicker Taylor Russolino

Last week, we reported that the Arlington Renegades signed K Jonathan Garibay, as Taylor Russolino was dealing with a hip-related injury that would sideline him for about a week or so.

The original plan was for Garibay to fill in for their week four matchup against Houston, and then Russolino would make his way back. In a strange twist, the Renegades have all of a sudden decided to release Taylor instead.

Russolino’s Spring Career

This move has caught the spring football community by surprise. Russolino has been one of the most consistent kickers in this scene for the last few years. For him to receive the short end of the stick from the Arlington Renegades – after what he’s accomplished with them – is odd.

With the Renegades in 2023, Russolino was 16/19 on field goal attempts. His long of 56 yards came in week ten, in a loss to the Houston Roughnecks.

In the postseason, Taylor was phenomenal. He went 5/5 across their two games, ultimately helping the Renegades win the XFL Championship that year.

So far this year, Russolino has been accurate. He made five of his six attempts, with a long of 52 yards. He’s also kicked off 14 times for 920 total yards, averaging 65.7 yards per kick.

Those who watched the XFL in 2020, remember Taylor with the St. Louis Battlehawks. He made a 58 yarder in their home opener that year, which put him on the map of some NFL teams. He spent some time with the Denver Broncos, before continuing his career in the XFL with Arlington.

Final Thoughts

Now, Jonathan Garibay appears to be the kicker in Arlington moving forward. He made his lone field goal attempt of the day against Houston, and kicked off three times, averaging 70.7 yards per kck.

It’s unfortunate for Taylor, who’s slight injury hiccup now leaves him without a job. Russolino likely would’ve been able to return this week. Hopefully, the trusty veteran will land on his feet sooner than later.
