Wednesday in the UFL brought some of the most intriguing moves of the week. The San Antonio Brahmas signed QB Alan Bowman, the Michigan Panthers added QB Colby Suits, and the DC Defenders brought in DB Trey Dean.
QB Alan Bowman | San Antonio Brahmas
Alan Bowman has a rather unique story. He was with the Michigan Panthers for one week earlier this season, when they needed an emergency QB. Bowman was still a part of the NFL draft pool, but ended up going undrafted this year. With San Antonio in a similar position, needing a QB with Kevin Hogan injured, Alan now makes his way to the Brahmas.
Bowman had quite the journey in college. He began his career at Texas Tech, playing there for three seasons primarily as a starter – but missed some time due to injury. Bowman threw for over 5,300 yards across that span, while tossing 33 touchdowns to 17 interceptions.
In 2021, Bowman made the move to Michigan. In two seasons there, Alan was a backup, hardly seeing the field. He attempted just 11 passes as a Wolverine. This led to Alan transferring to Oklahoma State in 2023, which proved to be the right move.
In his final two years of action, Alan threw for 5,900 yards and 32 touchdowns – leading the Cowboys to a 13-13 record. Turnovers were an issue for Bowman, however, with 26 interceptions during his time at Oklahoma State.
QB Colby Suits | Michigan Panthers
Trouble is brewing in Michigan. They’ve had to bring in another emergency QB, this time signing Colby Suits – the former New York Jet who has been away from football for the last year.
Colby played the majority of his football at Louisiana-Monroe, throwing for 1,755 yards and nine scores (10 interceptions) across four seasons. He was only the starter for one year, being a backup the other three.
Suits made the move to Houston Baptist in 2023, throwing for 1,919 yards and 13 touchdowns in 10 games – tossing 11 interceptions. Turnovers have been a bit of an issue for Colby as well, but he did enough in college to earn a short stint with the Jets in May of 2024.
Suits is being brought in as the Michigan Panthers are dealing with an injury to their star quarterback, Bryce Perkins. Perkins, an MVP front-runner, missed last week with an ankle injury. He has now been confirmed to miss week nine entirely, hence why Suits was brought in to be the emergency QB3 option, with Bryce inactive.
DB Trey Dean | DC Defenders
With the release of Josh Proctor, the DC Defenders have added Trey Dean, who should be the type of prospect who immediately makes an impact in that secondary. Dean played all of his college football at Florida, racking up 259 tackles, 13.5 TFL’s, four interceptions, and 24 PBU’s to his name.
Dean earned an UDFA look with the Jets coming out of college, and he eventually made his way to the Chiefs practice squad – winning the Super Bowl with them in 2024.
Since then, Trey’s bounced around a bit, most recently with the Cleveland Browns. With Trey being waived last week, GM Von Hutchins now brings him to DC, in an effort to boost Blake Williams’ defensive unit as the Defenders set their eyes on the postseason in two weeks.
