ABC Dominates UFL TV Ratings From Week Eight

Week eight in the UFL brought some elite excitement across the board, but the TV Ratings are once again a mixed bag. Courtesy of Mike Mitchell, we have the full report on how the UFL fared this weekend.

San Antonio vs. Memphis (FOX): 573,000
FOX Dual Broadcast (STL-BHAM, HOU-MICH): 591,000
DC vs. Arlington (ABC): 973,000

Starting off with Friday night, there thankfully wasn’t a major dip, even though the two teams featured were 1-6. It ended up being an overtime thriller, which peaked at 688,000 viewers during the final 15 minutes as the game went into OT. The UFL hasn’t been entirely pleased with the numbers for Friday nights on FOX, but the good news is that they haven’t been collapsing. Additionally, the game peaked in the final moments, rather than the first minutes – breaking the trend from previous weeks.

Saturday’s showcase, which had two games on FOX at the same time, was disappointing. Only 591,000 people across the nation tuned into both affairs, once again proving that the dual-broadcast window doesn’t necessarily bring viewership up, even though four teams are playing at once instead of two.

We’ve seen FOX struggle more often than not this year when it comes to their numbers, especially compared to previous years.

Luckily, ABC saved the weekend with the highest rated game of the UFL season. Sunday’s thriller between Arlington and DC averaged 973,000 viewers, with over 1.2M tuned in for the second half of the game. It was a matchup that went down to the wire, and unfortunately, got moved to ESPN2 for the final minutes due to NBA coverage on ABC.

Due to ABC’s impressive performance, and four games on OTA (over-the-air) networks, week eight was the strongest overall week for average viewership in the UFL this season, at 710,000 per game. This is up from 581,000/game in week seven. That trend is great to see, but it’s not without its shortcomings.

These last two weeks of UFL action will not have any impact on the playoffs, so we’ll see how that impacts viewership. Will the casual fan still tune in? This weekend was tremendous when it comes to the product in the UFL, but with the postseason set in stone, it could result in lower numbers the following two weeks.

  1. That’s interesting. Fox Sports does a WAY better job than ESPN / ABC when it comes to the quality of its sports broadcasts. Fox did a much better job than ESPN when comparing XFL broadcasts for example. Beyond that, I am glad to see the ratings win. That as a great game to watch.

  2. The UFL has changed how they advertise the weekly games from 2024 to 2025.
In 2024 they created a graphic used on social media prominently and similar on the main web site. It included date, time and network of game, for all 4 games in one graphic.
That doesn’t exists in 2025. Its hard enough getting viewers, can the league go back to this “easy to find/follow” weekly TV promotional advertisement?
Something needs to be done. Games on ABC should not be that much higher than Fox – in 2024 ABC beat Fox by 110k in reg season avg. This year so far its 240k. If its not a lack of network promotion than its the league.

They need to start making the Weekly game TV schedule easy to find and spread around. Earlier and simpler.
