On Wednesday, the Louisville Kings celebrated their inaugural UFL Championship. Their special event came along with some news: the United Football League will be back bright and early in Louisville. UFL CEO & President Russ Brandon announced that the 2027 season will kick off at Lynn Family Stadium on March 26th.
This is absolutely no surprise. The Louisville Kings were a smashing success during the first iteration of the UFL during the Mike Repole era. They averaged over 11,000 fans per game – second in the league – packing out Lynn Family week after week.
In 2026, the UFL opened up their season in Louisville. The Kings took on the Stallions, in front of a sold out crowd which demonstrated just how loyal – and passionate – the fans were in the city.
Fast forward a few months, and the Kings hoisted the United Bowl trophy in DC. Chris Redman, a local collegiate star, paved the way for Louisville’s success in his first year as a Head Coach. After an 0-3 start, the Kings rattled off eight wins en route to a Championship victory.
The UFL schedule has yet to be released, so it is unclear as to who the Kings will face off against. If the league plays their cards right, we could see Louisville rematch DC – the team they took down in the Championship on their home turf.
It makes sense for the UFL to stick with the late March kickoff for the 2027 season. It’s been the formula for the organization the last three seasons.
With 15 days left in September, we’re getting closer and closer to hearing news on where the UFL is headed next. Birmingham and Houston are being relocated to two new markets. Those announcements should be made soon.
