QB D'Angelo Fulford of Mount Union looking to pursue XFL opportunities.

XFL Player Profile & One-On-One: QB D’Angelo Fulford

With both the XFL and the USFL heading towards seasons in 2023, there are plenty of free agents who are bound to find their way back on the football field. D’Angelo Fulford, a quarterback out of Mount Union, is one of those names to keep an eye on.

This week, we caught up with Fulford to discuss his career so far, and what’s next. The young QB has been staying ready – and now, opportunities are likely to come his way.

College Career

After having a successful career at Miramar High School in southern Florida, Fulford found himself at Mount Union. While the school is classified as Division III, the team proved to be elite at their level, playing very competitive football.

It was an uphill battle for D’Angelo at first, but he fought through it all. After winning the starting QB position in his freshman year, Fulford broke his collarbone – sidelining him for the rest of the 2016 season.

However, this wouldn’t stop him from coming back stronger than ever. Fulford was an absolute baller from 2017-2019, putting on a show for the Purple Raiders.

In fact, he led them to the National Championship game in 2017 – posting sensational numbers. He threw 50 touchdowns on the season, to only five interceptions. Impressively enough, Fulford won the Championship that year with Mount Union, guiding the team to a very successful year.

Throughout 2018-2019, Fulford continued to be a force to be reckoned with. He was about as consistent as you could possibly be, finishing on a high note in 2019. His senior year came to a close with D’Angelo throwing for 43 touchdowns, while completing 72% of his passes. Without a doubt, Fulford proved to be an extremely talented QB at the Division III level, dominating opponents on a weekly basis.

Professional Career

It hasn’t been the easiest road for Fulford since coming out of college. After being signed by the BC Lions of the CFL in 2021, D’Angelo was eventually cut without seeing the field that season. He also was supposed to be in the USFL’s draft in 2022, but was never picked up by a team.

A great opportunity arose for Fulford this year, or so it seemed. He was contacted by Terry Shea (a longtime supporter and friend of his) to play in Major League Football (MLFB). The season was supposed to kick off in August, and it would be a chance to play pro football while getting paid. Not to mention, he would have the ability to put together film as well.

Unfortunately, we all know by now what actually happened – the league’s finances were a disaster, and they had to cancel the 2022 season. After training for two weeks, things were shut down without warning. That being said, he still put together some impressive film – carving up defenders in his short time in Mobile, Alabama.

Now, the quarterback shifts his focus to the XFL and/or USFL, hoping for an opportunity to present itself. His mobility, vision, and strong arm make him into a valuable weapon that could fit many different offenses. His accuracy and touch on the ball is immaculate – even when on the run. With all of the work Fulford has put in over the past several years, big things should be coming his way soon.
