Week six in the UFL is in the books, and the TV Ratings are in. Courtesy of Mike Mitchell, here are the numbers from this past weekend:
St. Louis vs. Arlington (FOX): 630,000
Houston vs. Memphis (ABC): 874,000
Michigan vs. DC (ESPN): 454,000
Birmingham vs. San Antonio (FOX): 620,000
Without the NFL draft taking eyeballs away from the UFL on Friday night, we saw the telecast jump back to what the season average has more consistently looked like. Arlington vs. St. Louis averaged 630,000 viewers, up 35% from the severe dip we saw in week five. Again, the competition last week was stiffer, leading to the lower number. Even then, the city of St. Louis had the NHL playoffs and a Cardinals game going on at the same time, so the increase in viewership is encouraging.
ABC continues to be the strongest channel for the UFL, with 874,000 tuning into Memphis vs. Houston on Saturday afternoon. ABC has almost always been the network that’s averaged the best numbers for the XFL/UFL, and that trend continues once again.
ESPN has been rather disappointing this year, with a large chunk of their games failing to hit the 500k mark – something we saw much more often in the UFL a year ago. Bryce Perkins’ masterclass was watched by just 454,000 people on Sunday afternoon.
FOX has been a mixed bag this season. Their Sunday afternoon showcase between Birmingham and San Antonio averaged 620,000 viewers – which continues to show decline from previous FOX broadcasts for the USFL/UFL in years prior. The game wasn’t very entertaining, and did compete with the NBA playoffs – so that played a factor.
Week six in the UFL this year averaged 645,000 viewers per game – up from 505,000/game last week. With three games on OTA networks this week compared to just one in W5, it’s not surprising to see the uptick in overall viewership.
