USFL & XFL In Week 12: KaVontae Turpin

The USFL & XFL Make Their Presence Known In NFL Week 12

Once again, the USFL and XFL saw multiple athletes get opportunities in the NFL this week. It was an entertaining weekend of football, with plenty of excitement provided by spring football alumni.

Brandon Aubrey | Birmingham Stallions

Brandon Aubrey has become a mainstay in these articles. The former All-USFL kicker for the Stallions has been brilliant for the Dallas Cowboys, continuing his success in week 12.

The Cowboys absolutely pummeled the Washington Commanders, 45-10. Brandon made an impact, converting 4 of his 5 XP attempts. In addition, he knocked through a 52 yard field goal attempt – building upon his NFL record of consecutive field goals made to start a career (22).

KaVontae Turpin | New Jersey Generals

KaVontae Turpin – the 2022 USFL MVP – has been a valuable addition to the Dallas Cowboys’ roster the past two seasons. He has been garnering more action as a wide receiver, and caught a 34 yard touchdown pass on Thanksgiving.

Daniel Whelan | DC Defenders

The Irish punter continues to prove why he belongs in the NFL. While Whelan’s 38 yards per punt on Thanksgiving doesn’t sound all that impressive at first glance – all four of his punts went inside the opponents’ 20 yard line.

His punting was key to Green Bay’s ultimate victory, as he consistently made Detroit start with poor field position.

Khalil Davis | Birmingham Stallions

Khalil Davis was one of the most underrated lineman in the USFL this year. He was stellar for Birmingham en route to their Championship berth.

Since then, he has impressed with the Houston Texans. After being elevated to the active roster a few weeks ago, Davis has been a force on the interior for an up and coming team. In Sunday’s loss to Jacksonville, Khalil posted three tackles – including an important stop in the red zone.

Final Thoughts

This weekend saw multiple spring football athletes activated to their respective 53 man rosters:

WR Chris Blair | DC Defenders > Atlanta Falcons
WR D.J. Montgomery | Michigan Panthers > Indianapolis Colts
QB A.J. McCarron | St. Louis Battlehawks > Cincinnati Bengals

It’s encouraging to see the USFL and XFL providing life changing opportunities to their athletes as the NFL season marches on. With a merger on the horizon, the spring football platform will be bigger than ever in 2024.
