Houston Gamblers Mauled Again: Will the Trend End in Week Six?

SHSU Bearkats in the USFL: Tucker Addington

Sam Houston State University (SHSU) alum Tucker Addington is the first of two Bearkats to be represented in the United States Football League (USFL) this season.

Addington, a 6-2, 230-pound long snapper, was selected by the Houston Gamblers in the sixth round of the 2022 USFL Draft.

The 24-year-old New Braunfels, Texas, native spent his entire collegiate career with Sam Houston State.

As a freshman for the Bearkats in 2016, Addington appeared in 11 games as the team’s primary deep snapper and registered two total tackles (both solo) and one fumble recovery; he played in all 14 games as the SHSU deep snapper in 2017.

In Addington’s junior year with the Bearkats in 2018, he appeared in 11 contests as the primary deep snapper and also garnered three total tackles (two solo).

Addington played in 12 games his senior year as the Bearkats’ primary deep snapper in 2019, while also picking up three total tackles (two solo) and a fumble recovery.

Bringing us to the 2022 USFL season with the Gamblers, where thus far Addington has appeared in all nine games for Houston.

Fun facts: Addington was a two-year starter at Canyon High School (Texas) and appeared in six games his senior year while amassing 137 all-purpose yards; he also threw discus in high school.

In addition, Addington is now an assistant coach at Texas Long Snapping — a year-round instructional camp specializing in teaching players “the science of football long snapping,” according to the official website for the organization.

Due up next for Addington and the Houston Gamblers (2-7, 4th place in North): a regular-season finale against the New Orleans Breakers (6-3, 2nd place in North) on Sunday, June 19 at 7:30 pm Central Time on FS1.
