It’s that time of the year again: The United Football League (UFL) is kicking off tonight. The quality of play should be exceptional this year, especially with influx of talent this past offseason. Across the board, we’ve got some new quarterbacks in the league who are very exciting prospects – while other well known veterans have returned to action as well.
Let’s take a look at who each team will be rolling out as their starter heading into week one’s matchups.
Birmingham Stallions: Matt Corral
We start off with one of the most recognizable names in college and spring football: Matt Corral. Despite the coaching turnover, Corral is back in Birmingham, and is starting for the Stallions once again. This time, he’s got the true keys to the franchise, after splitting time with Adrian Martinez and Alex McGough over the years. Matt is, no doubt, one of the most talented quarterbacks in the UFL. When he’s on, he’s unstoppable. Corral’s arm strength and accuracy, paired with his notable athleticism and mobility, should translate into success for Birmingham early.
Other QB’s: Donovan Smith, Taylor Elgersma, Michael Hiers
Columbus Aviators: Jalan McClendon
It’s finally his time to shine. Jalan McClendon is entering a spring football season as QB1 for the first time in career history. Last season, he emerged as a legitimate talent with the Houston Roughnecks, leading them to a few wins after taking over in week four. McClendon has a rocket for an arm, with one of the best deep balls in the league. He still needs to learn when to take a bit of that velocity off the football, but Jalan should have a field day in Columbus with Todd Haley as his Offensive Coordinator. His size, arm strength, and decision making should be on full display.
Other QB’s: Aidan Sayin, Jalen Morton
Dallas Renegades: Austin Reed
Surprisingly, the Dallas Renegades have went with Austin Reed, the young gunslinger, as their starter. He beat out the veteran in Luis Perez, and will lead the Renegades this Saturday vs. Houston. Reed is an exciting prospect at the position. He’s got mobility, but more importantly – he can sling the football. Austin led the NCAA in passing yards during the 2022 season at Western Kentucky, which translated into an NFL opportunity with the Bears. He was in Chicago for two years. Reed is best known for his strong pocket presence, and his ability to lead receivers into YAC opportunities.
Other QB’s: Luis Perez, Luke Lehnen
DC Defenders: Jordan Ta’amu
The District will return a fan favorite, and a UFL Champion. Jordan Ta’amu is back in action, ready to run it back in DC. Ta’amu is one of spring football’s best, and has been for several years. Last season, he showed some serious growth as a leader, improving his accuracy and ability to adjust to pressure throughout the year. While Ta’amu isn’t as much of a runner as he used to be, that isn’t a bad thing – it actually led to more passing success for DC in 2025. Jordan’s tangibles speak for themselves: he’s got what it takes to be a winning signal caller at this level. On top of that, this will be his fourth season working with OC Fred Kaiss. That chemistry should be on display very early.
Other QB’s: Mike DiLiello, Spencer Sanders
Houston Gamblers: Nolan Henderson
While he was signed right before camp started, Nolan Henderson returned to Houston and earned the starting gig. This is his third year with the team, and his third working alongside Eric Price as the playcaller. Nolan has traditionally been QB2 or QB3 with the Roughnecks – flashing his potential at times. Last year, an injury knocked him out for the season, right after he had been named the starter, leading the Roughnecks to a victory over Memphis in week three. Nolan isn’t going to beat you with his deep ball, but his scrappy nature gives him an opportunity in every matchup he’s in. Henderson’s mobility should result in plenty of RPO action out of Houston’s camp this year.
Other QB’s: Hunter Dekkers, Taulia Tagovailoa
Louisville Kings: Jason Bean
Possibly the most intriguing addition at quarterback to the UFL is Jason Bean. He’s probably the fastest signal caller in this league, rushing for 1,300 yards and 14 touchdowns throughout his college career. Jason’s a gamer – he just has a knack for escaping pressure, either getting the ball downfield, or picking up the easy yardage with his legs. Jason has been in the NFL for a couple of years, even taking snaps as a wide receiver during the preseason/training camp. With his arm strength, accuracy, and aforementioned mobility, the Louisville Kings have a legitimate MVP candidate on their hands.
Other QB’s: N’Kosi Perry, Chandler Rogers
Orlando Storm: Jack Plummer
The Orlando Storm have not officially named a QB1 – but according to the league’s website, Jack Plummer will be the starter. Plummer, at 6’5”, is a large framed quarterback, who has a unique journey so far. Plummer is a pocket passer, and with his height, can see over the line of scrimmage to get the ball downfield. He’s very accurate in the quick game, but has shown the need to develop his game at the professional level, struggling with the Carolina Panthers the last couple of preseasons. Needless to say, Jack is a hard worker – and should be a prospect that Anthony Becht can work with in Orlando. If he won eight games with Max Duggan and Manny Wilkins, he should win quite a few with Plummer.
Other QB’s: Dorian Thompson-Robinson, Hank Bachmeier
St. Louis Battlehawks: Brandon Silvers
Finally, it wouldn’t be spring football if Brandon Silvers wasn’t in it. Silvers is a veteran, having been the Seattle Dragons’ starter all the way back in 2020. He’s got tons of experience with A.J. Smith, and now re-unites with the Air Raid aficionado in St. Louis. Silvers hasn’t been a starter since 2023, when he was with Smith in Houston. That said, he got the chance to sling it late with the Battlehawks last year, and looked the part. Brandon is a smart, calculated quarterback, who should be poised for legitimate success in a system he’s very familiar with. The former Troy star and record setter still has it in him to be one of the league’s better quarterbacks.
Other QBs: Harrison Frost, Michael Pratt
Final Thoughts
Without a doubt, the UFL is poised to have strong quarterback play once again. There’s an excellent balance of seasoned veterans, alongside newer names – and guys who have something to prove.
The action all kicks off tonight, with Matt Corral and Jason Bean facing off in Louisville at 8pm ET on FOX.
