Luis Aguilar Sets Professional Kicking Record In USFL Win

What a weekend for Luis Aguilar. The Philadelphia Stars kicker had a record setting day for his team, pushing them to a big-time victory over the New Jersey Generals.

For Luis, this was an all-time performance. He finished the game with:

8/8 FG – USFL record for most kicks made in one game
56 yard FG – 2023 USFL season long
55 yard FG – Walk off for the win

In addition, Luis Aguilar set records not just for the USFL, but for professional football as a whole. His eight made kicks tie an NFL record with Tennessee Titans kicker Rob Bironas. However, his combined 338 yards of field goals is an all-time record, across all professional leagues.

This was a much-needed win for the Philadelphia Stars. The team had lost three straight, and risked dropping their fourth, had it not been for the leg of Luis Aguilar.

Luis joined the team midseason in 2022, proving to be a valuable asset on special teams. Since then, he has handled all kicking and punting duties for the Stars. Sunday was just another example of the consistency he’s provided to the team since signing.

Post-Game Comments

After the game, we asked Aguilar about what went into his game-winning kick, and the trust his teammates have in him:

Q:Take us through that final kick, your first professional walk off, what was the process like for you?

A:You kind of try to manifest it, you always want to get yourself in a state of ‘I’m going to get ready for a game-winner’; so, it doesn’t come as a shock. It goes back to treating every kick the same. When I was going out there, I was kind of like ‘just like a PAT’. Follow through, take a breath, get your sip of water…I have a whole routine. Just be a system kicker and knock it through. At the end of the day I’m here to score points, try to make it easy for myself, and keep it simple.

Head Coach Bart Andrus praised Luis for being able to “keep everything close”. Clearly, without his efforts, Philadelphia would be facing a four game losing streak.

Now, the focus shifts to week six. The Philadelphia Stars will face off against the mighty New Orleans Breakers, in hopes of getting back to .500.
