Baylor Bears in the USFL: Jacob Burton

Starting this week, we’ll be taking a closer look at a handful of former Baylor Bears currently playing in the United States Football League (USFL).

Leading off the pack for the Bears is Jacob Burton, an offensive lineman who was selected by the Philadelphia Stars in the 7th round of the 2022 USFL Draft.

Burton, who transferred to Baylor as a graduate student, enrolled at the Waco, Texas campus in August 2020 and started the last eight games of the season for the Bears at right guard.

Prior to his time at Baylor, Burton spent four years at UCLA and played in 29 games at right tackle in his college career with the Bruins.

In 2021, Burton signed an undrafted free agent deal with the New York Giants and was invited to training camp in hopes of garnering a spot on an NFL roster.

Although that NFL dream was placed on hold after not making the cut with the Giants, Burton has continued to pursue his goal of playing at the professional level with a highly-drafted spot on a 2022 USFL roster.

Thus far for the Stars in 2022, Burton has played in three games for Philadelphia and started in two of those games.

Fun fact: Burton is wearing the same #73 jersey for the USFL’s Stars as he did with both the Bruins and the Bears during his collegiate days.

Next game for Burton and the Philadelphia Stars (2-2, 2nd place in the North): a battle against the undefeated Birmingham Stallions (4-0, 1st place in the South) on Sunday, May 15 at 11 am Central Time on NBC.
